Apologies if this has already found its way to your inbox several times this morning, but this is an undated, foreign-produced version of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video. Whether it’s an homage or a rip-off gets lost in the translation (it sounds like he’s saying “Girly mon!” over and over again), but what’s interesting about the clip is not so much the video, but the song itself: The video-game bassline is a post-punk update of Jackson’s pop-soul, and the wheezing synth-horn line stays in your head long after the novelty of seeing poorly made-up zombies wears out.
Anyone have more information? The YouTube entries simply label this as “Indian Michael Jackson,” but considering the levels of moronic discourse on the site’s comment boards, we’re not sure if we trust them.
Thriller [YouTube]

The internets love this video but is really uninformed. Though it is, according to a youtube commenter, actually Tamil and not Bollywood.
If you think about it, the original “Thriller” video is essentially a Bollywood style video. Guy singing to cute girl? Check. Elaborate dance production with dozens of dancers? Check. Goes on for-fucking-ever? Check. So it was natural for some guy in Sri Lanka to bite Jacko’s style.
A more stylish Tamil music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKB8iIGnQwE
Jackin beat, goofy dance moves, and my god those Tamil are a handsome folk.
I don’t know if you guys have more than a passing interest in this stuff but there a quite are few clips of this dude on youtube. Just search for “chiru”.
My favorites are this one where he’s dressed like Antonio “Shabadoo” Quinones and sings to the tune of Axel F from Beverly Hills Cop, and this one that’s sort of like MJ’s video for Smooth Criminal, if everyone involved was a cowboy
i smell burning toast.
