, but it didn’t showcase the MC skills that made her a turn-of-the-century MP3 sensation nearly enough. This summer, she teamed up with the London rapper Akala–he’s also her younger brother–to release the mix CD A Little Darker; check out her rapidfire delivery on the manic “Don’t Stop,” which is structured around a stuttering violin loop.

    i hate when the first 30-45 seconds of a song is a looped arpeggio using a software synth. If you’re going to use something so unremarkable, that’s fine, but don’t present it on its own as if it’s some musical revelation.
