We’ve been scouring the Web for leaks from The Black Parade, the My Chemical Romance album that comes out on Tuesday, and we’ve finally–finally!–found a crack in Warner Brothers’ watermarked wall. “Mama” is an over-the-top, vitriolic rager that’s part Arcade Fire stomp, part musical-theatre monologue–and at the end, it veers into a pool of guitar sludge that’s only tempered by the presence of one Liza Minnelli.

Theoretically I should like all this and yet Gerard is *such* an empty-skulled doof. I understand now at last the feeling of those people who said “Oh I like the Smashing Pumpkins all right but I can’t get past the singer…” I wanted goth that grew up with Nightmare Before Christmas to do better.

I was actually really hoping this was a cover at first. That way, my iffy proposition that Phil Collins is a bigger influence on the kids these days than Lou Reed would get just that much more juice.
