The Vault: Freeing Girls At Our Best! From The Collectors’ Clutches

gaob.jpgThe UK post-punk band Girls At Our Best! had a slim output, and Pleasure, the CD reissue of their work, is currently fetching $200 (!) from certain merchants. In the spirit of sharing, here are two of our favorite Girls songs; “Too Big For Your Boots” is a ramshackle, piano-driven rave-up, while “Warm Girls” has a spiky guitar riff that’s so great, the Girls can break the “don’t name-check your band in your own song” rule with snotty aplomb.

The problem, most likely, is that Vinyl Japan, who released the reissue, went out of business a couple of years ago. Some VJ CDs have been released elsewhere (for instance, LTM is in the process of reissuing the Alison Statton & Spike CDs – Spike retained the rights), and I hear Domino’s repurposing YMG’s _Salad Days_ demos compilation into yet another _Colossal Youth_ reissue (please keep that in print this time!). But it does leave releases like this in limbo. Someone needs to pick it up pronto. I nominate Kill Rock Stars or Acute.
