Videodrone: Four Minutes That Define The Term “UKrazy”

November 27th, 2006 // 4 Comments

You may watch this black-and-white clip and think that it’s a particularly arty karaoke-vendor’s take on “A Whole New World,” but you’d be sadly mistaken. In fact, this cover of the Aladdin chestnut comes to us from Page Three Girl/chronic Q-lister Jordan (under her real name, Katie Price) and her husband, Peter Andre, who have an album of duets out today. From the sniffle-filled shower and bathtub scenes to the dueling allusions to “Justify My Love” and Phantom of the Opera, this clip hits a plane of absurd excess that Hype Williams could never even fathom reaching. Bravo, you two. Bravo.

Both videos are making me wonder whether this is proof of no God or in fact proof that, to paraphrase Ben Franklin talking about beer, God loves us and wants to make us insanely happy.

  2. Bob Loblaw

I never thought there’d come a day when I missed Peabo Bryson.

Come on, y’all are missing the best part of this!

Some brave audio engineer released the vocal tracks pre-autotune pitch correction. View the horror.

I work with music software and can see that if this is a fake someone took a lot of time to create it and had access to the original vocal mix.

I have no idea who these people are, but this is just, well, amazing. The Linda McCartney Tapes for the YouTube age.

You’d think when you sing as badly as Jordan you’d try to make it up to the poor sods that are stuck watching the video by making it, you know, exciting. But Jordan has no pity. Apparently, pretty dresses and two people frolicking around in Italy (I know it’s Italy because there’s churches, yo) has to be enough for us.
