Because our back-in-the-day Salt-N-Pepa collection was limited to a few badly dubbed Maxell cassettes, we were taken aback when we walked by a stoop sale and saw a copy of Blacks’ Magic, the cover of which looks like the poster for a Tyler Perry-directed Harry Potter movie. Why anyone would give this record up for a mere $2 boggles the mind; nearly 17 years after its release, Magic holds up as one of the early ’90s finest moments of rap-pop. Cut it up one time!
