Listening Station: The Format Drops A Bomb

format.jpgAfter noticing the Format’s stellar Dog Problems album on a few friends’ year-end lists, we figured that was our excuse to post up a track from one of the last year’s best power-pop records. “Time Bomb” features Jellyfish’s Roger Manning Jr., Redd Kross’ Steve McDonald, and a truly invasive chorus:

They have an record that got lost in the Atlantic/Elektra merger (“Interventions and Lullabyes”) that’s also very good. “The First Single” should have been a smash alternative radio hit if stations could have made room around the Nickelback and Jet tracks.

I adore the Format, and felt so incredibly ahead of things when I purchased Interventions and Lullabyes. They are a great band, complete with horns from time to time, and so-so live. Dog Problems was my #1 on my year end list though! Glad Idolator found an excuse to post Time Bomb and get that in my head instead of Abba (also your fault!!)

All I have to say it’s nice to see the Format finally getting some recognition. Interventions & Lullabies should have been way bigger hit than it was, but I guess it was nice to be able to go see them play at Chain Reaction in Anaheim with about 30 or so of your closest friends a few years back. Nate and the rest of the band deserve every bit of praise they get because they were a HUGE part my high school years. Now go slay some 15-year olds, dudes.
