On The Flippity-Flop: McLusky Get Lusty

Beginning today, Idolator will spotlight unjustly ignored B-sides, bonus tracks, and EP cuts for a segment titled “On The Flippty-Flop.” Send your suggestions to tips@idolator.com.

ARTIST: McLusky
SONG: “Undress For Success,” 2003
FIRST APPEARANCE: Undress For Success EP
WHY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN A-SIDE: Welsh scream-rock trio McLusky only managed three studio albums before flaming out in 2005, but they left behind no shortage of raging sing-alongs. “Undress For Success” is from a stopgap, but it’s one of the band’s best tracks–which is probably why the 56-song McLuskyism compilation includes it on the “best-of” disc.

quite possibly one of the best live bands i’ve seen.

saw them at maxwells in hoboken, nj.
they tore through their set like mad men.

i mused to my girlfriend at the time who went with me that this must have been what it was like to see the Pixies in the mid 80’s.

    total face melting rock.

i loved every minute of it.

and the fact Andy had his cigarette stuck in his lip like he was Ray from Ghostbusters — all the while singing-er-screaming?- yelling. he was yelling. and playing bass.

oh Mclusky, we hardly knew ye….

My favorite McLusky moment is them playing “To Hell with Good Intentions” on some TV show in front of an audience of screaming school girls: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCrv3ofNL8U

We do more drugs than a touring funk band, SING IT!

McLusky were one of the mightiest bands of the 2000’s, vocal shredding screams, anvil heavy bass thumpin, and some really great lyrics.they had the floor at Schubas in Chicago practically buckling
a top notch live act.. can’t wait to see their newest bands

it’s funny now, on the indie scene in the UK that everyone says they love mclusky, cos the many times i saw them they were playing to bugger all people.

amazing band, one of the best live experiences ever (even if there were only 15 others watching).

they couldn’t have kept it up, they’d be deaf and mute by now.

fave mclusky moment: when the bassist ditched his bass halfway through one song, rifled around in his guitar case, brought out a hacksaw and started sawing through the body of his bass guitar!

here’s the song that introduced me to the mightyness of mclusky, but performed in a slightly odd way…
