Timberlake’s Pop Secret: Who’s The Object Of His Deflection?

February 27th, 2007 // 17 Comments

OnSmash has the video for the Timbaland/Timberlake/Furtado track “Give It To Me,” in which each performer takes on an anonymous big star: Timbaland lashes out against a “piano man” who is, alas, probably not BIlly Joel, and Furtado disses an anonymous hyphenate. Most damning, though is Timberlake’s take-down, in which he vents: “We missed you on the charts last week/Damn, that’s right, you wasn’t there/If sexy never left, then why’s everybody on my shit?” There have been plenty of rumors about the identity of his target, but he’s remained quiet so far…

  1. SirLoin

    It’s actually producer Scott Storch.

  2. Ozzy

The real question is obviously why does hip hop hate melody?

  3. slutsky

    That’s kind of a charmingly unpolished video…

  4. janine

Prince said at some Emmy party, “For whoever is claiming that they are bringing sexy back, sexy never left!” JT should be happy that Prince even noticed him. Starting Beef with Prince isn’t a good look.

  5. janine

The part about “mumbling” and “clearing the air” is supposed to be about Janet.

  6. slutsky

    The song is terrific though.

  7. brainchild

yeah, tim’s verse is about Scott Storch (who recorded his own diss record towards tim) and timberlake’s is about Prince.

    *yawn*

is r. kelly in jail yet?

  8. MJ

So JT can’t take a joke from Prince, then lets his lack of humor inspire him to write terrible lyrics about it. Niiice…

  9. brainchild

especially since timberlake’s “pose” and “until the end of time” owe quite a bit to Prince.

  10. The Mozfather

I hope Ozzy is being ironic.

Timbaland’s rapping is always embarrassing, but the rest of the song is so good it’s bearable.

  11. cerulgalactus

So, who is Furtado starting her beef with then?

  12. janine

@The Mozfather: Actually, he’s making a pretty funny stereogum reference: http://idolator.com/tunes/stereogum/stereogums-listening-s

  13. Quine

Those lyrics suck. justin most be on some hardcore drugs to think he can legitimately talk smack to prince (if that’s his target).

  14. zaky

What the hell is wrong with Timbaland’s face? He looks like Yoda when he sings.

  15. antistar

This song has been floating around for several weeks. Timberlake went to the Prince Golden Globes After Party, so I doubt it was some real beef.
It would seem really stupid for him to talk smack about Prince when he and Timbaland sampled him on the Futuresex/Lovesounds album.

“I hope Ozzy is being ironic.
    I doubt it.
I’m listening to the Storch joint right now and it sucks ass. I liked Storch better when I knew of him via the Roots’ Do You Want More liner notes.

Nelly is supposed to be talking about Fergie, bc in Ferg’s song Fergalicious she said “and No, I’m not Permiscuous…” Nelly took that as a jab at her and retaliated with her verse on “give it to me” talking about how she is a supermodel and “girl you aint that dope…” i feel stupid that i know that and even more stupid that im writing about it on here…but its friday and i just did a FAT line of coke and im WIIIDE awake. LOL.

    OWWW!
