Remember that scene in Giltter, when Mariah is forced by a hacky video director to cavort around a set crammed with falling confetti and beefcaked dancers? Beyoncé’s “Upgrade U” is like a classed-up (and hopefully satirical) version of that, complete with gratuitous watch-shots, a Rolls Royce close-up, and a gender-bending Jay-Z. Billie Frank would never have stood for this.

I think the shot of Beyonce with the diamond jammed in her mouth is spectacular. And the butch Beyonce/femme Beyonce pairing will keep her lesbian fans well lubricated. All in all: check!
