Al Gore’s Save The Earth Concert To Be Held At Dump In Flushing?

shea2.jpgThe blog Hidden Track is reporting that the North American installment of Al Gore’s “Live Earth” concerts, which are happening on July 7, will take place at Shea Stadium, the New York Mets’ soon-to-be-demolished ballpark in Flushing, Queens. One of your Idolators has spent a substantial amount of time at Shea Stadium, and we have to say: If ever there was a venue that doubled as an argument that the world was in need of massive cleanup, Shea is it*–and if the Red Hot Chili Peppers headline, the whole shebang will remain exactly on message.

* Before any Mets haters rush in to agree, let us stress that this criticism only applies to the building itself, and not the amazin’ baseball often contained therein.

Is it just me, or does anyone else see the absurdity in holding a “save the planet” series of concerts that will depend on the artists getting there via private jets (most likely), the attendees getting there by gas-guzzling SUVs or smog-spewing beaters, and all of them using styrofoam cups for their beer?

Wouldn’t the planet be happier if we all just stayed home and downloaded the music instead?

  4. At least Al Gore is right concerning climate change, right? Or is he? He says it was man-made, not simply Earth’s standard cycle over many thousands of years. Ya think?
