In the world of American Idol, “Latin night,” as we figured, does mean “songs that were performed by Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, or Santana,” or something close to it, based on a post on the Idol Forums that lists a few of tonight’s song selections. That list–of four songs, including one song/singer combination–after the jump.
“Conga” (Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine)
“Sway” (written by Pablo Beltrán Ruiz; covered by the Pussycat Dolls and Lopez, among others)
“Maria Maria” (Santana featuring Wyclef & Jerry Wonder)
“Smooth” (Santana featuring Rob Thomas) — Chris Richardson
Don’t you love how Rob Thomas’ associaton with Santana makes him caliente? Anyway, since this is a partial list, we can still hold out hope that one of the contestants will sing the song below, which was made famous by a man born in Santiago, Chile (that counts by Idol standards, right?), and which would be an absolute barnburner given the right treatment:
Benny Mardones – Into The Night [MP3, link expired]

This gives me a great idea– Pussycat Dolls night!
I can definitely see Sanjaya putting on the performance of a lifetime with “Don’t Cha.”
The song’s lyrics may be creepy, but props to Idolator (Maura?) – “Into the Night” would’ve been an awesome song choice.
