Leak Of The Day, Part II: The White Stripes Make A “Thump”

thumpppp.jpgWeb Vomit has an MP3 of “Icky Thump,” the first single from the White Stripes album of the same name. The track is apparently taken from an XFM session, and despite being book-ended by some DJ chatter, the sound quality is pretty good, especially during the “la la la la” bit:

The blueprint is the same: 1) Announce beloved musicians who recorded their best stuff before most people knew what a compact disc was, much less an MP3. 2) Laugh as bands ... But how about The White Stripes? They’re currently broken up ...

Cockneys or Mexican Cowboys? Yet to see complete clarification regarding the costume.

Really great track – I dig the split-up shenanigans of the tune. Pump that bass drum Meg. Pout. Tres Bien.

Holy flurping shnit. Jack White is rock & roll Jesus.

SABBATHHHH! Wow, they have never sounded this heavy. Meg’s drums sound like they are eight feet tall and being played in a cavern. Love it.

@Mike: I vote Cockneys. The album cover photo shows it’s full-on busker.

I’m down. This is better than the stuff from “Get Behind me Satan.” Though not as good as “Elephant.”

Looks to me like they are playing at being Pearly Kings and Queens.

They really capture that classic Wolfmother sound!!!!

    yawn

Maybe I’m just tired of blues-rock.

Wow, this sounds awesome; I’m pretty surprised, considering that it’s the White Stripes and the song is called “Icky Thump” (which sounds totally gross). I’m so glad 2007 is turning out to be the year that noise came back to indie rock.

lol BusDriver Stu, i hear where your coming from but don’t give up on the Blues-Rock, check out The Black Keys! (Thickfreakness is a much cooler name than Icky Thump)

It seems the whole album has now leaked and a high quality rip to boot, 320 kbps. I’m listening to it now.
