The New Name For “TRL” Is Making Us Want To Force-Quit

trl.jpgJust when we thought MTV was getting back to its senses, they have to go and do things like this:

MTV has narrowed in on a name for its struggling Total Request Live show, or TRL: the more Web-friendly YouRL.

Oh, we love it! It’s so zeitgeisty, only for, you know, the zeitgeists of 1999 and 2006. If only the MTV powers that be had gone the retro route, and decided to rebrand the thing 976-RLRL. (Although who knows, maybe that’s the next sleight of rebranding that VH1 Classic has up its sleeve.)

Does anyone else remember when this show was simply called “Top Five Videos” (or something like that) in the early ’90s? It was hosted by the awesome VJ Steve Isaacs (current singer for the Dave Navarro-led Panic Channel), and they even had cool acts like Faith No More come and do studio performances sometimes… oh, the day.
