Ann Coulter Rages Against Her Lack Of Agit-Rock Knowledge

Last night’s Hannity & Colmes opened with a segment on Rage Against The Machine singer Zack De La Rocha’s Coachella proclamation that the current Presidential administration “should be hung, and tried, and shot.” That soundbite allowed the show to book a bit that featured Ted Nugent referring to Rage as a bunch of “dopey, hippy rock ‘n’ roll numb nuts” and the praying mantis-like pundette Ann Coulter, who seemed to be trying out for the long-canceled rock-critic throwdown Four On The Floor:

COULTER: I’m not painting them as liberals. I’ll paint them as losers. You know, I missed the VH1 special “I Love the ’90s.” I missed this whole thing. Who cares about them? Has anybody checked in with Flock of Seagulls to see what their position is on Bush?

COULTER: They’re not very attractive.

COLMES: You don’t like any of those guys?

COULTER: I’m seeing them right now.

COLMES: Are you looking for a boyfriend?

COULTER: Not in that crew.

COLMES: You would rather talk about a nude but growing cuter polar bear than Rage Against the Machine.

COULTER: And, by the way, they are also very unfamiliar with D.C. gun laws if they think they can shoot the president, because no guns allowed.

COLMES: All right, but do you really believe — just like you say a lot of crazy, outrageous things you don’t really believe, you don’t believe that they really mean that, do you?

COULTER: I don’t know. I don’t know anything about them, like most Americans. They broke up like 10 years ago. One guy tried — I e-mailed one of my friends at MTV to find out who they even are. She said they broke up. The solo guy tried a career for seven years, bombed completely, and now, you know, [they're] really all looking forward to the Van Halen reunion.

Wait–so now De La Rocha is replacing Diamond Dave? Guess they wanted to get as far away from Gary Cherone as possible.

    who’s ann coulter?

  2. dollywould  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

Not very attractive? Damn, I think Tom Morello is the sexiest man in rock ‘n roll.

  3. Maura Johnston  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

    @heidiho: Consider the source.

  4. Ned Raggett  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

just like you say a lot of crazy, outrageous things you don’t really believe

I did like how this went unchallenged.

  5. Cam/ron  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

Speaking of “dopey, hippy rock ‘n’ roll numb nuts,” Coulter just happens to be a Deadhead, seriously.

  6. dollywould  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

@maura: True. I shudder to think who she considers attractive.

  7. Rory B. Bellows  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

    There fans are losers.

Did Anne Coulter call me a loser?

  8. sarahrose  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

hahahahahahahahahha she isn’t worth commenting on other than to laugh. this is priceless.

  9. SterileEyes  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

Um, Rage didn’t “threaten” the administration.

They said, in their opinion, they should be ‘hung, tried and shot’ like the war criminals they are.

How is that threatening? It’s called an opinion, CuntAnn…

  10. PengIn  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

Ms. Coulter contacted someone at MTV to investigate the doings of a rock band. Do they even have a music department?

  11. NickEddy  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

I never thought I could be jealous of la Coulter, but to not know who Rage is? I’ll take some of that cultural isolation.

And, strangely, she used to date that SOY BOMB dude.

    Mebbe.

  12. noamjamski  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

Poor Gary Cherone, he can’t even catch a break in a post about RATM…

His entire career with Extreme was eradicated by being involved in one highly questionable record…

  13. plasticaisle  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

She doesn’t think he’s attractive cuz he isn’t a WASP from Connecticut.

Can she just get assassinated already?

  14. GiantPanda  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

that show makes me feel nauseous

  15. chocomel  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

she’s got it all wrong, RATM fans aren’t losers, it’s the band that are a bunch of dopes.

  16. Chris Molanphy  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

I feel a little like Stan and Kyle at the end of the South Park Terri Schiavo episode: “Cartman is right, but for the wrong reasons.”

  17. BaconCat  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

Plastic Aisle – Oh no, we can’t assassinate her, that would make her a martyr to the cause. But fear not, she cannot be attractive to republicans forever, as soon as they cannot fill their masturbatory thoughts with images of Ann Coulter’s penis because she’s too old and wrinkly, she will fade back into the obscurity from whence she came.

  18. Antiheroine  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

She makes a good point, though – has anyone checked to see what Flock of Seagulls thinks about Bush? We need to be fair and balanced about this.

  19. Dr. Marv  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

So they’re going to focus on one statement from the show, but not the trustifarians that were burning the flag from all the AP photos?

You’d think that would be a better hot button issue for Fox News, but whatever.

BTW, I was parked next to some of the flag burning kids. Parked right next to their BMWs and Audis. Read into that what you will.

  20. Teasdale  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

    HANGED, for Christ’s sake, HANGED.

  21. thefrontpage  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

    Anne Colter is hot!

  22. Ned Raggett  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

I feel a little like Stan and Kyle at the end of the South Park Terri Schiavo episode: “Cartman is right, but for the wrong reasons.”

    Truer words etc.

  23. zaky  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

    What a hag.

Ann Coulter, defender of District of Columbia Home Rule and DC Gun Law: “And, by the way, they are also very unfamiliar with D.C. gun laws if they think they can shoot the president, because no guns allowed.”

  25. Rilo-Andy  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

I’m telling you all we need to do is throw a bucket of water on her, and she’ll go away. Well it worked for Dorothy…

  26. AcidReign  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

…..Gary Cherone did a fabulous job on that VH III album. Period. It’s the most diverse, interesting music recorded under the VH name. And for once, we had vanHalen lyrics that were above pre-teen little boy-level.

…..Still, working with a 24/7 drunk, temperamental guitar player proved to be impossible, I guess.

  27. Lionel Hutz Esq.  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

Well of course Anne doesn’t listen to Rage Against the Machine, trannys are much more into dance music.

And the best part is looking at Anne dealing with the fact that she is considered the same as ever freak on the left with an opinion to share. She so wants to think of herself as something more, and yet, for some reason, all people consider is what she actually says. Go fig.

  28. tuffgirl  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

    @AcidReign: Gary, is that you?

  29. AcidReign  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

…..No, I wish I had Cherone’s vocal chops, though! I do admit to being an Extreme fanboy from way back, though!

btw, the edwards campaign hq just got another suspicious package dripping white powder, so mann coulter is, as usual, in error.

  32. gorillavsmarykate  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

Whoa, Ann Coulter is 45? I was just about to write something to the effect of “How can someone in their 30’s not know RATM? I don’t listen to rap but I know who Nas is.” And then I found out she’s 45. Which makes a bit more sense now. Flock of Seagulls WAS her RATM. Think about that!

By the way, I think taking the whole “I’ve never heard of them, who cares what they say” argument is really the most childish tactic to use. I wonder why she didn’t finish with “I know you are, but what am I?”

  33. So glad that there is more than just me who liked Cherone in Van Halen AND Extreme.

  34. Anonymous  |   Posted on May 4th, 2007

I got about 30 seconds into that and spared myself the torture. That panel is a circle of douchebags.

  35. AcidReign  |   Posted on May 4th, 2007

…..I was considering booking an appointment for my ears next morning. Thanks, JDR! VH III was a CD out of it’s proper time in history, I think. To men, it’s still quite enjoyable, and nicely preserved in it’s cookie-tin.

,,,,,EVH is a brilliant guitarist, even given his of-late sorry state. Evidence: the “Catharine” entry at Youtube. Let’s enjoy while he lasts, and mourn his likely early demise.

  36. coreyander  |   Posted on May 4th, 2007

@RepentTokyo: Wow, for a moment I just imagined a beautiful world.

  37. Stafford  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

Towards the end she asks for a republican attack on a democratic campaign headquarters. I don’t know, but the Watergate Scandal, the scandal which pretty much desroyed presidential reputation, seems to be a pretty big one…just sayin’. Maybe it’s not destroying it, but it certainly did a lot more long-term damage.

  38. sleazysean  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2007

I’m still waiting for someone to explain how you can have a trial with presumably dead defendants. Or will they merely hang them till they lose conciousness and black out, later reviving them for the trial and eventual shooting?

  39. district  |   Posted on May 5th, 2007

    “Hanged, and tried, and shot”

    Isn’t this out of order?

  40. I love how Coulter name-drops David Horowitz. Likening yourself to a prominent Holocaust denier (a Jewish Holocaust denier!) is always a smart move.

  41. RepentTokyo  |   Posted on May 5th, 2007

@coreyander: honestly, one of the benefits of living outside the US is not knowing who these people are.

  42. Trackback  |   Posted on May 5th, 2007

Stylus revisits the first fifty Sarah Records releases:Another Sunny Day returns with “I’m In Love With A Girl Who Doesn’t Know I Exist,” the track Sarah detractors would often cite as Exhibit A in their case against the label’s proclivity for sad bastard pop.

  43. Dicecube  |   Posted on Jun 20th, 2007

I believe fox edited that video so it would look like Zach said “Hung, tried, and shot” whereas he actually said “Tried, hung, and shot”. Just comes to show you how full of shit that station is…

  44. Dicecube  |   Posted on Jun 20th, 2007

I believe fox edited Zach’s quote so that he said “Hung, tried, and shot” whereas originally the quote was “Tried, hung, and shot”. Nonetheless the entire panel took it completely out of proportion and said things that were completely uncalled for. I hate these people. It’s incredible how full of shit they are.

  45. sinfrost  |   Posted on Aug 29th, 2007

Coulter: “These people are animals and it’s not helping the Democrat’s P.R. campaign to look like civilized people”

But, the war in Iraq is doing wonders for the Republicans to exhibit their humanity!
