Stuck On Repeat: The Smittens Pile It On

smittens.jpgWe unearthed A Little Revolution, the 2005 album by the Vermont indiepop crew the Smittens, during our iTunes digging today, and while most of the tracks were perfectly serviceable crush songs, we developed a particular fancy for “Tell Al Green.” It’s the story of two people who desperately want to make out, but feel too socially awkward to do so–so naturally, both of them decide to hide behind a girl-group-worthy wall of sound before they can come out and talk about their feelings:

    love me some smittens. they were good enough to hit stl on their last tour; it was one of last summer’s highlights for me.

    Nothing warms a heart more than meta-musical indie pop love songs. This track might even be better than Tullycraft’s “Pop Songs Your New Boyfriend’s Too Stupid To Know About”.
