Stuck On Repeat: Spoon Drops A Bomb

britt.jpgSpoon’s forthcoming Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (not be be confused with this) has been on the internet for so long, you’ve probably already grown tired of yaying or naying it, and have already moved on to the next Spoon album. We’re still playing it quite a bit, and while the background coughs and caught-on-tape mistakes are a bit cringe-inducing (that sort of “authenticity” always seems a bit forced), we can’t say enough good things about “You Got Yr Cherry Bomb,” which is a perfectly fine piece of white-boy boogie, thanks in part to those way-down-in-the-mix horns:

    Did you mean to say, “Not to be confused with this:

    Anyone else really digging this record?

    I was ho-hum on Spoon for a long time, but after seeing them at the Bowery last month and giving this album some time, it seems like they’re really finding their voice.

    OK fine. I have a mancrush on Britt Daniel. Sue me.

    Link doesn’t work. Help! Please! I don’t know this “filesharing” of which you speak.

    Also: mancrush: Britt Daniel? Yes.

    When I listen to Cherry Bomb, I can’t help but always think of “The Book I Write,” which I like more.

    I get a 4 KB blank file, whihc gives new meaning to the phrase “way-down-in-the-mix horns.”

    Sorry all–we’ve been having weird MP3 problems as of late. We’ll get it fixed, promise! In the meantime, the song can be found on about 2 zillion other music blogs.

    the whole album’s a hum-dinger. if you haven’t heard “finer feelings” then you haven’t heard the best song on the record yet.

    i agree that studio chatter and “mistakes” caught on tape always sound forced, but to be fair, spoon has always included some of that stuff. i hardly notice it on their records anymore.

    now, nelly furtado’s “loose” – that was some egregious fake studio banter. as if we’re to believe her and timabaland had an actual conversation about doing a reggaeton song when we all know labels include the obligatory reggaeton song in the “artist development” budget.

    I was prepared for this to a mediocre, trying-to-hit -the-mainstream record, and since I got it last night, I have listened to it about 4 times. It’s really good. No ‘Kill the Moonlight’, but still absolutely solid.

    If anyone knows Farsi (right?) please give them a shout-out.

    @nonce:

    Okay, I should’ve listened to the song first–it doesn’t work, of course. Does anyone know Farsi for “Dudes! C’mon!” ?
