Squirrel Nut Zippers reunion? Pish! I’m calling for a Metal Flake Mother reunion (that I’m pretty sure only I and two or three people in North Carolina would care about)!

In all seriousness, I love the Squirrel Nut Zippers. “Hell” was the worst thing that ever happened to them, because it forever tied them to the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, which was pretty much the lamest trend cash-in band of all time (seriously, they were Nu-Metal before they did “Zoot Suit Riot”). But if you’re able to scrape away the layers of nu-swing grime, you have yourselves a great little band with two fine singers and some isolated moments of pop brilliance.
Let’s not forget that the fantastic Andrew Bird came out of the Squirrel Nut Zippers…
That’s good news about The Verve. Nick McCabe is a fantastic guitar player/songwriter. Richard needs him. They might put out something pretty great.
Don’t hold your hopes up.
Now about this ’supergroup’
Given that Jimbo and Katherine parted on very bad terms, and looked quite uncomfortable on stage last time I saw ‘em, I hazard a guess that maybe this has to do with something besides artistic ambitions.
Squirrel can reunite or not; what I want is for their female lead singer to put out more tracks, which was 9/10ths of the appeal in the first place. Great, great, great, great voice. I think she has a solo album; it’s on my list of “stuff I can’t afford unless I find a pile of money in the street” and “fantasy albums I think should exist although they don’t.”
@nonce: She has two solo albums, but don ‘t get your hopes up. She hooked up with a producer who makes world-music sampling beatbeds for her to croon over. It’s not pretty. http://www.katherinewhalen.com
The dude, jimbo mathus, has had a decent solo run (something like twelve albums and counting) but he takes the whole authenticity vibe to the point of absurdity. Like microphones covered in mud and RL Burnside references at every turn. But there are occasional gems.
