Nicole Willis & the Soul Investigator’s Keep Reachin’ Up would be a sure-fire year-end-list contender for one of your Idolators–except for the fact that Reachin’ was actually released overseas last year (apparently, a retro-soul record as good as this doesn’t go unnoticed in the U.K. and Japan). A foreign ‘06 release won’t prevent anyone from voting for a record making its U.S. debut. For example, you think any critic (including, um, this one) is going to hold back from voting for Amy Winehouse’s album just because it’s a dog’s age old in the U.K.?
