Fergie Gives Princess Diana Slightly Misguided Sartorial Tribute

July 2nd, 2007 // 7 Comments

Yesterday’s Concert For Diana was full of many inexplicable things–eighty appearances by Joss Stone, an unable-to-improvise Ricky Gervais, and a seven-minute version of “I’ll Be Missing You” among them–but the head-scratching kicked off pretty much right away, when Fergie took the stage:

It made us feel terrible, really; obviously she was trying to pay tribute to Diana with her outfit, but someone forgot to tell her that Prince Charles’ tampon-fueled pillow talk wasn’t directed toward his deceased ex-wife, but her romantic rival, Camilla Parker-Bowles. (However, our sympathies immediately went away when she started in on that awful “Big Girls Don’t Cry” song.)

England’s Rose, meet America’s (former meth addict, pants soiling) Wild Orchid.

I watched about 30 minutes of this concert yesterday on VH1. It was the whitest, blandest event I’ve witnessed in ages. I’ve never seen so many sweater vests.

Everybody goes on about how terrible award shows are, but I’m sure this tribute show was worse than the last three years of Billboard Music Awards and Grammy Awards shows combined.

This post should have some sort of NSFW warning if you dare click through and read the transcripts. Seriously, I’ve gone sterile after reading that. My nuts have gone into premature hibernation. Thanks, Idolator!

I’m sure Kanye was a HUGE fan of Diana. Yes, yes, she would have absolutely dug his beats.

Also, this dress clearly offers limited urine-absorbing properties for those unfortunate onstage “Fergalicious” moments.

@zaky: She would’ve been down if he did a Duran Duran mashup.
