It’s tough to keep up with garage punk savant Jay Reatard– does he have some sort of ongoing bet with Bob Pollard for how many side projects a guy can have? Even so, his solo releases are a godsend, drawing upon a variety of new wave influences like the Adverts. Just check the out the hiccupy reverb that drives home the chorus of “Hammer I Miss You,” his 2006 single for Goner:

I absolutely love this dude.
His cover of the Go-Betweens’ “Don’t Let Him Come Back” just may be the only listenable cover of the song I’ve ever heard.
