Listening Station: Portastatic Stands Up

July 24th, 2007 // 1 Comment

portastatic.jpgThe documentary The Trials of Darryl Hunt tells the story of an African-American man who was wrongly convicted for the rape and murder of a white woman–despite no evidence against him and no eyewitnesses–and spent nearly 20 years in prison while putting together a defense. It’s coming out on DVD this fall, and it has a pretty great soundtrack as well, the proceeds of which benefit the Darryl Hunt Project, which works with people who have been convicted wrongly. The album comes out Aug. 7, and it features donated tracks by the likes of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Dead Prez, and Mark Kozelek; Portastatic also contributed a demo version of “You Blanks,” which appeared on last year’s Be Still Please, and it’s below:

Thank you for posting probaby the only track on this I’d be remotely interesting in hearing (although I feel like kind of a dick for saying that since profits go to a good cause). “You Blanks” was my favorite song off the last Portastatic album, nice to hear a different version of it.
