Okay, not really. But a Russian military officer who had accquired a number of Hitler’s records after the fall of the Third Reich recently died, and his daughter decided to give a German magazine a little peek into a very evil man’s taste in tunes. You will be shocked to learn that as well as being a monster, Hitler was also a big ol’ hypocrite, listening to both Jewish and Russian musicians in addition to nationalist faves like the homey R. Wagner. What is it about fascists and racists getting off on the art of people they would otherwise love to get rid of? The list of Hitler’s desert island (bunker?) discs is after the jump:
Here is the list in full:
Richard Wagner – ouverture of the Flying Dutchman performed by the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival House
Modest Mussorgski – aria “Death of Boris Godunoff”, sung by the Russian bass Fjodor Schaljapin
Pyotr Tchaikovsky – one entire album with the star violinist Bronislaw Hubermann as soloist
Alexander Borodin
Sergei Rachmaninov
Austrian musician/singer Artur Schnabel (who left Germany in 1933 as he was Jewish)
Hitler’s record collection from his Berlin bunker [Telegraph]

dig if u will the picture of a bunch of rednecks in their jeep getting ready to go mudding and pick up townie chicks blasting lil’ wayne & birdman out of the speakers
Well at least we know what will be in the jukeboxes of these mostly South Korean Hitler-themed bars.
Jesus Christ, who wrote this. “Musician/singer Artur Schnabel”? I’m pretty sure a singer is technically a kind of musician. And anyway Schnabel didn’t sing. So it’s just “musician/musician Artur Schnabel.”
Desert Bunker Discs would be a great label name.
