Van Halen Webmasters Put Michael Anthony Back In His Place

August 15th, 2007 // 6 Comments

vanhalenreal.jpgPurists breathe easy: Yesterday’s fiasco involving a version of the cover to Van Halen I where new bassist Wolfgang Van Halen was swapped in for estranged bassist Michael Anthony has ended, and the real cover is now up on the site.

No doubt when the “real” site launches next month, the band’s Internet consultants will figure out a design that isn’t as dependent on flogging the past, especially since David Lee Roth keeps shooting off his mouth about how this is a “new band”–so technically the set list for this tour will be made up of only cover songs. Does that mean that “California Girls” has a shot of making the set list?

No, no, no, no, don’t take him off, don’t take him off . . . leave him on.

    (That’s probably a bit of a stretch.)

@tigerpop: Well done! I didn’t find it to be a stretch at all.

Ted: C’mon Dave, gimme a legacy-destroying sham of a reunion tour.

Dave: Hey hey hey! One legacy-destroying sham of a reunion tour… COMING UP!

THAT is a stretch. Yours was right on the mark, sir.

Notice also in the links section of the site there is a link to a company called High Profile Media. I beileve that this company is run by Eddie’s current girlfriend. Having your girlfriend manage your career may not be the wisest thing to do, considering that, if you look at the clients section of the HPM site, Van Halen is their only client.

I also signed up for the Van Halen news letter on the main VH site, and I received a horribly formatted email in reply about 20 minutes later. All in all, the site seems unpolished.

I’ll still go to the show, though.

I’m figuring the tour will blow up before it ever reaches my town. Maybe they’ll make a DVD, and I can scoop it out of the cutout bin in a year or two for cheap.

Ya know somewhere in Vega someone has to be placing odds on this falling apart.

I hope so… No Mike = No Van Halen. I’ll save my money and go see Sammy and Mike.

    If it’s a ‘new’ band – give it a new name…
