Truly Madly Deeply Bigoted

savageg.jpgOr perhaps not. Darren Hayes, frontman for Austrialian MOR shock troops Savage Garden–who organized a gently harmonized campaign of terror against America’s lite FM stations in the high season of Ally McBeal–says he is most emphatically not a racist after the issue was raised following police involvement during an altercation at a Thai restaurant where he was accused of harassing an employee:

“On his official Web site, a statement from Hayes’s solicitor reads: “Darren is unable to comment to any extent as the incident is presently under investigation by the police, with whom he has cooperated fully.

“However he is deeply upset at the allegation which he strenuously denies and anyone who knows Darren will recognise that the particular nature of the allegation is totally abhorrent to him and contrary to everything for which he has stood.”

While I hope these allegations blow over for Mr. Hayes, I can’t help but feel that, between this and the Uncle Kracker arrest, America is losing what little innocence it had left as its turn-of-the-millennium soft-rock heroes are demonized and hounded by the law. Where have you gone, Mark McGrath? Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you.

It’s a celebration of the common man, which is truly, honestly, madly and deeply at the core of Budweiser’s entire reason for being. We open a Bud at the end of a long day, no matter what we do, to mark what we have done and lift our spirits a bit.

I just turned my eyes to Access Hollywood. Ew. At least a restaurant altarcation carries a hint of “cred.”

Jew-hating feeling taken shelter in the base
of my spine sweet like a chica cherry cola

Come on, people… It’s not like there weren’t warning signs.

He wants to throw that Jew off a mountain.
He wants to fling all Thais in the sea.
He wants to ban immigrants forever –
    Until the radical Islamites bleed.

I’ve had the (so-called) pleasure of eating at the restaurant where this alleged incident occured and I’d be willing to guess that the attack was probably justified. It’s not known for superior customer service.

And besides, most all of the waiters there are from Brazil. I wonder what sort of racial slurs he spewed.

    @Charlie Kerfelds Jetsons Tee:
I think he said “CHINK-a-Cherry Cola.”

His words, not mine. The man is a monster and must be stopped.

This guy’s band, Natalie Imbruglia, and the Backstreet Boys were on constant repeat when I worked at a gas station, cooking crawfish. Also, Merrill Bainbridge, I think. I hated the radio back then.

    Defamation!
    Get your facts right!
You are all so very wrong!

“Any time I need to see your face
I just close my eyes and I am taken
to a place where your crystal mind and
majenta feelings take up shelter in the base
of my spine sweet like a chica cherry cola”

You kick a man when he is down!

    For God’s sake!
THIS MAN WORE THE ABORIGINAL FLAG WHEN HE PERFORMED AT THE OPENING OF THE MELBOURNE OLYMPICS.

“Even as they poured in to the centre of the field, Australia’s top pop group Savage Garden took over, with lead singer Darren Hayes and lead guitarist Daniel Jones holding the spotlight in a vervy rendition of their most recent hit, Affirmation.

Hayes appears to have taken it on himself to continue the symbolism of Cathy Freeman lighting the torch 15 days ago — his T shirt had the Aboriginal flag blazed on it.
Was it just coincidence, or was Hayes making a further point when, on centre-stage, HE WENT ON HIS KNEES to sing that portion of the song, with special emphasis, that went:

“I believe the sun should never set on upon an argument,
I believe we place our happiness in other people’s hands…”?
