The High School Musical 2 soundtrack has six songs in this week’s Billboard Hot 100–including the No. 33 song, “What Time Is It,” which leaked all the way back in May but still sold 63,000 copies to Zac Efron-loving-tweens around the country. [Hollywood Reporter]

Six songs is impressive, but it’s fewer than the nine songs from the original HSM that hit the Hot 100 simultaneously in winter 2006.
Obviously all of these “hits” are the result of a one-week infusion of iTunes sales, not any appreciable radio airplay. The fact that fewer songs made the Hot 100 this time — and none of them made the top 10 — is (I’m theorizing) evidence that Billboard’s recent skewing of the chart formula away from iTunes and back towards terrestrial radio airplay is working as expected.
