James Brown now actually may in fact be dead, but the legacy of L.A. Style lives on thanks to[This dumb joke is factually inaccurate as L.A. Style were actually Dutch, not Belgian. Thanks to reader undisputedwes. I blame all the ecstacy.] A new digitized online storehouse that has ripped approximately six decades of Belgian music onto one big ol’ hard drive, promising all the Agathocles and Lords of Acid you can take. Check out Bobbejaan Schoepen’s “Cowboy Jimmy” and other hits for an adorable Flemish take on Country and Western! Bobbejaan Schoepen! He owned his own amusement park, Bobbejaanland! Dude’s rich!
i’m just waiting for someone to make a post-dancerock track called “james murphy is dead”.
Oh man, that takes me back! I’m sure I still have the cassingle with that horrible pencil drawing.
But my favorite early techno song is the one with the samples from Dune: “The spice must flow.” I wonder if they have that one in the Belgian music vault?
I have to protest! My Dutch pride requires me to point out that LA Style was a Dutch group, not a Belgian group.

I learned from the wiki page it was actually the first techno song to hit the Billboard Hot 100. They later went on to create the Venga Boys. I apologize in the name of my people for both.
holy crap i’m actually embarassed by this mistake. theyr’e going to take my raver pants away from me now.
@jessdolator:
please post pics b4 they do kthx
Regardless of the mistake, there’s nothing wrong with a little electronica mentioned on Idolator once in a while. And less rap. :)~
I was really hoping that the update was going to be “This dumb joke is factually inaccurate as James Brown is actually alive and well and on a UFO with Elvis. Unh!”
@chrisb: The track you’re thinking of is “Spice” by Eon. I didn’t find it in their archive.
BONUS TRIVIA: Denzil Slemming, the guy behind L.A. Style, also had a project called Nymphomania, whose song “I Want Your Body” was featured in the trailer and movie True Romance (the scene in Gary Oldman’s drug dealer pad).
