pitchfork.jpg“It’s elitism for the sake of elitism,” said Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke, who refuted Pitchfork’s middling rating, describing the entire art form as “transcendent.” “I’ve been listening to music for over 30 years, and it’s consistently some of the best stuff out there.” [The Onion]

Seriously, am I the only music fan who knows what “refute” means? (A hint: It doesn’t mean “rebut”!)

@marc h.: uh, refute means “to prove to be false or erroneous, as an opinion or charge.” Also, commonly considered a synonym for ‘rebut.’ i’m not sure i see your point.

I think “refute” generally means showing how a logical chain of statements, from premise to conclusion, is somehow faulty, whereas “rebut” can refer to a mere denial of claims.

Finally, the finest nail in Pitchfork’s coffin. Derivative of Pavement indeed…

    Hilarious!
