OK, here's what a 46-year old lifelong pop-culture hogette thinks:

ACROSS THE UNIVERSE is a Ciff's Notes look at the '60's that only those who have already read the novel will be able to parse.

It had its moments, and Jude & Max (when THAT actor play doppelganger Kurt Cobain?)were eye candy. The Mr. Kite scene was how I imagine Cirque Du Soliel's LOVE should be. However. The visual and otherwise (maxwells silver)hammer-heavy puns were distracting. Cafe Huh? Pyschedlicatessin? The 45's in the stained glass...come on. It was like a Beatles version of where's Waldo.

But: Joe Cocker as a pimp? Worth the cost of popcorn.
