togetherness.jpgThis list of the “Top Ten Rap Songs White People Love” proves that bloggers really need to step up their white people hating. There are plenty of good reasons to disparage the race–imperialism, the current administration, Hinder, racism, the current CBS lineup, the Jena Six debacle, the Stereogum comments section–but dancing to early ’90s pop-rap at weddings is not particularly high on the list. By the way, here’s Idolator’s list of The Rap Songs White People Love: 99.5% of the rap songs that have charted in the Billboard Hot 100 over the last 20 years.[Cats And Beer]

The list is missing two all-time whitey faves: White Lines and Rapper’s Delight.

The list was funny to me in a guilty way. To be blunt, the humor was basically “Let’s laugh at those nigger lovers and miscegenists!” Growing up in multi-ethnic California, I can tell you that I saw kids from across the rainbow go batshit crazy when many of the listed songs came on the school dance speakers. What the blogger failed to mention is that a huge number of Causcasian metalheads and punk rockers loved Wu-Tang, Ice-T and Ice Cube back in the early 90’s.

man, some folks are as sensitive as the tip of a penis - it’s a silly list (though near iron clad) - and Agro is right: black people do talk like that

White people talk like this. Black people talk like this.

Speaking as a “white” person, there are plenty of things we deserve to be rridiculed about, but man is this lame.

I was expecting some rant against white suburban kids driving around listening to NWA and the Geto Boys-instead I am lectured about white folk’s negative image of Biz Markie! Hey I love the Biz, and to say he’s “deep in the hip hop scene with lots of cred” may be true, but he did record “Pickin’ Boogers” after all…

No shit, Jess. Hip-hop has always been extremely popular with white folks. Man, every country kid here in the South listens to more rap than country music.

Didja ever notice how white guys have names like Lenny, whereas black guys have names like Carl?

Oh, but I will say, as I am a wedding DJ (reformed), that list is not too far off. “Hey Ya” should be on there maybe, though I’m not sure if it’s “rap” per se. That think still kills it, as well it should.

I’d have flipped “Ice Ice Baby” (even the whitest of honkies only enjoy that ironically now) with “Bust a Move,” which is just massive with The Man.

And I’d place “It Takes Two” in the top five, probably replacing “Hip Hop Hooray” — that song had its Moment With Whitey a long time ago.

Otherwise, I can’t fault the selection. That House of Pain song sends wiggas into a frenzy.

But without blog posts like that, how will the more self-conscious, “realness”-obsessed white folks know which rap songs to pretend they never liked in the first place because they were too busy listening to… oh shit, gotta think of somebody with cred really quick… uh… Big L!

I will admit I laughed at “Nelly is the white Justin Timberlake.”

@dennisobell: the house of pain song is probably the only song on the list that has a specific effect on white folks. i think the others are fairly universal in causing drunk people to wild out.

i was on the fence about you jess, but your quip about stereogum’s comments section won me over. you’re officially “acceptable” in my book now.

  14. This post is responsible for horrible flashbacks of being forced to watch Comic View. Like others have said I get hyped to some of this stuff when I’m drunk (I enjoy Ice Ice Baby somethin’ awful), but maybe that’s why relatives tease me for acting ‘white.’
