The Idolator crystal ball was obviously working overtime when it had a vision of a major retailer having certain... problems with the title of the forthcoming Nas album.
"There is no album release by Nas on the release schedule at this point," a source close to Island Def Jam Music Group chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid told FOXNews.com.
"And they would be unlikely to release an album with that title. How would that look at Wal-Mart?"
Good to know Def Jam's adventurous spirit lives on, eh?
Record Label Denies Rap Star Nas' Claim of Forthcoming Album Called 'Nigga' [Fox News]

To be honest, I never for a minute thought this album would be dropping in 2007, but not because of the title: Nas gave no indication that he'd be releasing an album this year until October, and there's still no single out for it. I think he just threw out an optimistic release date without even submitting any music to the label yet (which I'm pretty sure is the same thing Ghostface is doing with the album he's supposedly releasing in 7 weeks).
The real gold of the Fox News article:
The inflammatory word pops up throughout Nas' rap lyrics, sometimes written in the plural with a "z" on the end.
richard pryor put out a record in the mid 70's called "that nigger's crazy", it's been done before. if the word offends you so much, don't buy the record. you will never de-fang that word by suppressing it. i don't say it and i don't really care for it but i also cannot tell black america what they should think of it. obviously, fox news is genuinely concerned about race relations(too bad sarcasm is so hard to convey online). they wouldn't stir up shit just to distract from real issues, would they?
I kind of expected something savvier from Nas, frankly. There's frank and provocative, and then there's juvenile and sledgehammery.
It's not my middle-class sensibilities that are offended; it's an aesthetic thing. This doesn't read like an attempt to stir up necessary discussion, or even to get negative attention from right-wingers, just as an unhappy artist on a troubled roster, setting a bag of poop on fire.
@GovernmentNames:
Do your homework... Nas has been talking about a 4Q 07 release since "Hip Hop is Dead" came out...
