thrillla.jpgIf only Thriller could protest Michael Jackson’s plans for its re-release with a hearty rendition of the chorus to “Leave Me Alone”: “According to reports, Jackson plans to spruce up the 25th anniversary addition of the album by adding four remixes of Thriller tracks. Those lending a helping sequined gloved hand on the remixes for ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Something,’ ‘The Girl Is Mine,’ ‘Billie Jean,’ and ‘P.Y.T.’ are Kanye West, Akon, and Will.i.am.” I’ll give the Kanye collaboration a pass, if only because of what he did with the “P.Y.T.” sample on “Good Life,” but really, was the world screaming for a remake of “The Girl Is Mine”? Especially if there’s a strong possibility that Jackson will be tussling with will.freakin’.i.am? [RS]

    this is bullshit. if they don’t give us the full length version of “Carousel” on this, i will not buy it. i was extremely pissed at the snippet on the last reissue. i’ve been dealing with a fuzzy sounding copy of that song for years now.

    will.i.am can save himself some time and effort on the “P.Y.T.” remix simply by dropping in Fergie’s “I’ll give you all that I got” and will’s own mid-track breakdown from The Dutchess‘ “All That I Got (The Make Up Song)”.

    Also, and seriously, I’m not sure how I feel about the idea of a remix of “Billie Jean”. That song is already perfect. But Kanye’s style actually matches up well with “the original”, so maybe he’ll take that one, add a verse of his own, and maybe a Feist sample, and call it a day. Actually, I think I’d like to hear that.

    One would have been led to believe by the RS reality show that the blog posts go through some sort of rigorous editing process. Obviously, this is not the case.

    @DHMBIB: i heard a great broken beat remix of Billie Jean a couple of years ago.

    Honestly I think remixes of Thriller songs by current hitmakers have a way better chance of being good than new MJ collaborations with the same dudes.

    @GovernmentNames: Sad, but true.
