The Wu-Tang Clan Would Like To Retract Its Entry In The Worst Album Cover Of The Year Race

wutangshop.jpgSo a few weeks ago we entered this cover in our “Worst Album Cover Of The Year” contest for its painful Photoshop filter abuse and general air of last-minute laziness. But then the Clan goes and unveils a whole new sleeve, one they feel is more Wu worthy, especially for a release as anticipated as 8 Diagrams. So how does the “official” cover compare?

Well that’s a… little better, even if our inner font fiend is still forced to give that typeface a thumbs down. A thumbs down with a wack drop shadow.

A thumbs down for your crash course photoshop class not teaching the difference between wack outer glow and wack drop shadow.

I gotta say, it’s not a great cover, but the new one is a vast improvement. Now it’s just mediocre, which makes it boring for the purposes of the Idolator contest.

    is raekwon wearing wu-branded binoculars?

  4. Is it weird that I’m a tiny bit surprised Ghost is on the cover? What with all the bad blood and all.

This doesn’t look worse or better than any other hip-hop album cover I’ve seen, just a LOT less hilarious. They’re not trying to look hard enough to push into parody, but the cover design is cheap enough to be aesthetically off-putting. If there were like, bling flashes in inappropriate places, dollar signs floating in the air, a disproportionately stretched gold frame around it… then i would at least be “awesome,” to use my inner ironic hipster’s language.
