Dizzee Rascal Flexes His Video Budget

November 9th, 2007 // 6 Comments

Five years later, I still love Dizzee Rascal more than any of his grimy contemporaries, and continue to persist in my pipe dream that he will one day “break” America. (Hey, anything’s now possible in a world where Daft Punk are commonplace sample fodder.) Even as his music’s gotten slicker, there’s always something charming about Diz’s videos–and the Pop Idol/American Idol gags in “Flex” are no different–but if anyone deserves/needs a noirish, high-gloss Hype Williams clip, it’s this guy.

The white guy that they dismissed. Was that mike skinner AKA The Streets? Or just a beef-baiting look-alike?

  3. Bazooka Tooth

Maths and English is so good, I cannot believe he has not broken bigger in America.

  4. PopIsNotDead

Yeah, that was Mike Skinner. Hopefully he’s just taking a break from making another “A Grand Don’t Come For Free”.

Love the track- is it just me, or does Dizzee look like Terrell Owens?

He was in Roll Deep Crew, too, right? That’s some great party music. Just wild, wild beats.

@Aquemini: It’s the accent. Which is bull shit, because Dizzy blows up every dance floor I’ve seen.
