People’s Choice Awards Give The People A Chance To Declare They Actually Like Music

November 9th, 2007 // 6 Comments

Nominees in the People’s Choice Awards were announced today, and even in a year where most peoples’ choice for music seemed to be “the music I already have, thanks,” there are a bunch of music-related categories, including Favorite Reunion Tour. (Favorite Plain Old Tour, however, is not a category. Weird, right? Although I suppose the Hannah Montana tour would win by default) The voting page is a mess of Flash that requires you to fill out a freakin’ captcha (you know, one of those “smeared numbers and letters” images that allegedly makes the computer on the other end believe that you’re a person, and not a street team’s spambot), which will probably mean that only the most devoted fans will want to roll the dice on the possibility of a browser crash. Could you be one of them? Well, that depends. How do you feel about Rascal Flatts and Fergie?

The music-related nominees:
Favorite Female Singer: Beyonce; Fergie; Gwen Stefani
Favorite Male Singer: John Mayer; Tim McGraw; Justin Timberlake
Favorite Group: Daughtry; Maroon 5; Rascal Flatts
Favorite Rock Song: “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s; “Home” by Daughtry; “Makes Me Wonder” by Maroon 5
Favorite R&B Song: “Beautiful Liar” by Beyonce with Shakira; “Because of You” by Ne-Yo; “Shut up and Drive” by Rihanna
Favorite Country Song: “I Need You” by Tim McGraw with Faith Hill; “Never Wanted Nothing More” by Kenny Chesney; “Stand” by Rascal Flatts
Favorite Hip-Hop Song: “Give It to Me” by Timbaland feat. Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado; “Party Like a Rock Star” by Shop Boyz; “Stronger” by Kanye West
Favorite Pop Song: “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie; “Irreplaceable” by Beyonce; “What Goes Around…Comes Around” by Justin Timberlake
Favorite Song from a Soundtrack: “Read My Mind” by The Killers from “Friday Night Lights;” “What I’ve Done” by Linkin Park from Transformers; “You Can’t Stop the Beat” by the Cast of Hairspray from Hairspray
Favorite Reunion Tour: Genesis; The Police; Van Halen

  1. Al Shipley

Any award category with only 3 nominees is unacceptable, let alone an awards show where EVERY category has only 3 nominees.

  3. Camp Tiger Claw

Favorite Group: Daughtry; Maroon 5; Rascal Flatts

Ah… so that’s how you trick someone into saying they like Maroon 5.

  4. SuperUnison

At least they have one more choice than those of us who vote for political leaders. That said, the same problem underlies this bullshit that underlies American politics; either way it’s like getting knife raped, it’s just a question of whether or not the knife has a condom over it.

  5. Chris Molanphy

I like Rihanna and love that song, but: nominating “Shut Up and Drive” for Favorite R&B Song would be like nominating Exile’s “Kiss You All Over” for Favorite Country Song. Did no one pay attention to the beat?!

  6. El Zilcho!

Is this a new way of detecting replicants? I thought I was a person… but according to this list and how I choose none of them must mean I’m a robot.
