Gramaphone.gifHey, did any of you watch My Night At The GRAMMYs, Friday night’s TV special that revealed that the greatest Grammy performance of all time was by, uh, Green Day? Us neither. But apparently during that show the Recording Academy unveiled its slogan for the 2008 Grammys, which is the 50th celebration of music’s old guard, and it is: “The Next 50 Is Here.” Somehow, the braintrust at Chiat/Day managed to create a slogan that makes even less sense than the show itself, which I guess is why ad people get paid the big bucks. This slogan narrowly beat out, “Someone Please Put Out a Comeback Record” and “We Will Fucking Sue Your Ass.”

umm… i don’t think anything could beat this, ever.

    Is the Grammys’ children learning?

  4. Al Shipley

For a second I thought that the slogan was a reference to all the mixtape rappers that the hip hop press dubbed “The Next 50 Cent” in 2003. Maybe Joe Budden is hosting the Grammys next year?

@iantenna: Wow, thanks! I haven’t laid eyes on that since broadcast. Notwithstanding the obvious bits of instrumental fakery (is Dolby actually playing anything?!) that managed to be about as good as I remembered it.

    2007. Year of the Schmoo.

@iantenna: For some reason, that video reminded me of nothing so much as those teenage boys with the ottoman.
