Melinda Doolittle Shows Off Her Onomatopoeic Skills
Aw, man, seeing this made me do a full-body cringe. Melinda Doolittle was the best pure singer of all the American Idol contestants last season, and she can’t even let whoever masterminded this Zaxby’s ad to at least let her toss off a measure or two of a song? Instead she has to make freaking sound effects? C’mon, everybody, it’s not like you’re dealing with Michael Freaking Winslow here.

I have to disagree; Melinda Doolittle oversang EVERYTHING to the point where it was screechily unwatchable. She has a strong, clear voice, for sure. But doesn’t being a pure singer include dynamic control?
@SomeSound-MostlyFury: Yeah, I’m with Maura, dude — you’re alone on that one. Doolittle could be faulted for a snoozy middlingness sometimes (*sometimes*), but “screechy” is the last thing I’d call her.
I am sickened by the lack of interest in the powers to be, to give Melinda a contract. I understand she wasn’t the prettiest (gosh, not hollywood perfect?) I realize she wasn’t 17 and had the most years to market for the most $$…………but man, have these idiots lost sight of marketing talent. Gosh,……..maybe they couldn’t figure out how they could ruin her recording debut by trying to turn this beautiful songstress into the next rap star.
Where are the powers to be, who regognize the talent this woman has, who could push the right buttons to make things happen for her?
I have been watching the reruns of last years Idol and am sickened by the push the judges put towards the eventual winner. So obvious if you watch the reruns. Oh gosh………on the “Idol Gives Back”….let’s make it look like Jordin will be voted off, inspiring the crowd to feel sorry for her. Yes, Jordin can sing……..but she is not even slightly close to the talent, and beauty of delivery that Melinda has. Someone please record this woman.

@SomeSound-MostlyFury: What? “Screechily”? Was your volume control busted? If anything, Jordin was the screechy one.

@maura: Color me embarassed. I was thinking of LaKisha.
@SomeSound-MostlyFury: Ahhh, gotcha. Well that I can see, yeah. Her “Jesus Take The Wheel” was traumatizing!
Oh god, Melinda, no! You should have an album out by now. It’s embarrassing enough that you were even on American Idol with a voice like that.
Jordin was way more the AI archetype than Melinda was. This doesn’t change the fact that Melinda basically sang circles around everyone else on stage.
I swear American Idol lost a lot with her not in the finals. Big mistake…
@djp: Very true
