Which Z100 Star Will Put On The Most Painful Performance At Tonight’s Jingle Ball?

avrillllscience.jpgTonight, Maura and I will be at Madison Square Garden for New York pop station Z100’s annual Jingle Ball, taking in the cream of Billboard’s crop: Fall Out Boy! Alicia Keys! Avril Lavigne! The Jonas Brothers! Jordin Sparks! Colbie Caillat! Backstreet Boys! Boys Like Girls! Timbaland! With OneRepublic! And Keri Hilson! Is pop music really dead? Probably, but we’ll find out for sure tonight. As a friend put it, it’s going to be awfsome! But which iTunes bestseller is going to put on the most awfsome performance tonight? For the answer to that, we turn to the crystal ball of our handy poll software.

there’s no way avril doesn’t ‘win’ this poll, right? what she lacks in charisma is made up by her being totally annoying!

  2. Dead Air ummm Dead Air  |   Posted on Dec 14th, 2007

@maura: What’s going to put Avril Lavigne over is that she’s probably the most likely to inapproprietly swear with the most frequency.

Because you know, she’s hip, and a punk, and stuff.

  3. Al Shipley  |   Posted on Dec 14th, 2007

Don’t sleep on Colbs, people. Cc bout to win this.

  4. Jess Harvell  |   Posted on Dec 14th, 2007

see, the thing is that i think cc will be awful but competent.

OMG, take me with you. I’m SO jealous of the awfsome potentiality.

  6. cassidy2099  |   Posted on Dec 14th, 2007

I’ve seen Avril, and it wasn’t bad.
Nothing is more grating and intolerable than Alicia Keys, live, on record, hell, just sitting around, annoying as hell.

While listening to Z100 in an effort to get pumped for the show, I heard that OneRepublic followup single, and I might need to change my vote. Woof.

@cassidy2099: Ditto that–Avrilbot is OK live. My money’s on Timbaland who, as a performer, is one hell of a producer.

@GovernmentNames: Word, Gov. CC’s got all her suckiness bases covered: “Bubbly” is annoying cuz it’s painfully bad yet unshakably catchy, and the rest of her songs are just as crappy but even harder to listen to. And her stage banter will sound just like her MySpace bulletin. Prepare yourself for some SERIOUS awfsomeness.

What, no hate for Jordin Sparks? Is this because she’s ONLY SEVENTEEN (for one more week)?

  11. DavidWatts  |   Posted on Dec 14th, 2007

@maura: I totally voted for one republic. It’ll at least be the most awkward, especially if Carrot Top – er- Timbaland is going to be on stage with them.

  12. Moimeme  |   Posted on Dec 14th, 2007

@Thierry: Can’t be…cuz there’s plenty of snark here for the Jonas Brothers and one of them is barely 15! (or a combined average age of 17.6. I can’t believe they are in second place…they are fun live and totes adorable even when they mess up n stuff.

And also? Avril = suckage. One Republic…hmm, I like that song because I have learned not to be a snob and hate something just because it is popular (it’s all, What Would Avril Lavigne do…and then do the opposite. ie. Avril would probs hate the Jonas Brothers)…BUT the live OneRepublic videos that came with their album on iTunes show Timbs deserves a lot of credit for making that song work.

I covered the local version of this last week with some overlap in performers (although we had Blake Lewis and Good Charlotte and we were supposed to have Kanye, but he pulled out at the last minute).

Avril looked like a zombie and spent her set singing into what appeared to be a Hello Kitty flashlight.

But Timbaland was worse. He spent at least as much time mindlessly gabbing between songs and namedropping JT as he did actually performing.

  14. myrrh  |   Posted on Dec 14th, 2007

Can I just say, Avril’s backup dancers Sofi and Lindsey FTW?

    I’m not even being sarcastic.

  15. Maura Johnston  |   Posted on Dec 15th, 2007

@myrrh: Were those the color guard people?

  16. Maura Johnston  |   Posted on Dec 15th, 2007

Anyway, more to come on Monday, but the winner was, as raihala predicted, Timbaland! And the losers were all of us, who had to listen as he trotted out his five-year-old son and gabbed endlessly about his credits.
