Delaware Throws A Rainbow-Colored Christmas Party

rainbowcovers.jpgThe efforts of Clear Channel’s programmers have probably helped you already get sick of holiday music, but there are quite a few seasonally appropriate songs worthy of your time out there. To help cut through the clutter we’ve asked Jon Solomon, whose 20th annual 24-Hour Holiday Radio Show on WPRB kicks off at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, to offer up some seasonal cheer in MP3 form. Today, he brings us a few Christmas tunes from the Delaware bands Walleye, Zen Guerrilla, and Bullette:

A good decade before she was half of The Sky Drops, Monika Bullette produced a record of 18 Delaware groups doing Christmas songs called Rainbow Covers The Holidays. The entire record–as well as two non-album Bullette mp3s–is free for download on Bullette’s site.

Highlights:
• Jade Tree/Compulsiv recording artist Walleye’s cover of

• Zen Guerilla’s sludgy take on
• Bullette’s is also quite nice.

    Delaware, eh?

    A friend of mine grew up there. From time to time, she comes up to me says “Dick, I know I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: if I die, I don’t care what anybody says–doesn’t matter if it’s friends, family, or the pop–whatever you do, YOU CAN’T LET ME GET BURIED IN DELAWARE. I would rather they throw my body in an IHOP dumpster than go back.”

    @dickdogfood: I can beat that, I lived in the littlest state on and off for 10 damn years. Over dinner with family members the other night, talking about how fucked up, drug-saturated and white trash the Delaware is, I decided that it’s the mid-Atlantic answer to Florida.
    I remember Zen Guerilla! They were pretty good.

    @dickdogfood: I live in Delaware. And love it (though I grew up here, I’m acclimated). Too bad, perhaps your pal hails from one of our lower-state trailer parks?

    I’ve lived in Padua, Paris and New York – Manhattan and Brooklyn. If you don’t mind Brooklyn, you won’t mind Delaware…unless you’re some obnoxious hipster douche.

    @GovernmentNames: The littlest state….um…Rhode Island?

    Zen Guerrilla left Delaware for San Francisco as soon as they got the chance. But god, I loved them here in Philadelphia.

    That said, they obviously didn’t know Little Drummer Boy very well when they recorded it.

    Mr. Darren Walters rapping…surely that must make Governor Minner proud to represent the DE.
