East Flatbush Project Prove Our 90s Nostalgia-Fest Goes Beyond Indie Rock And R&B

It also includes hip-hop! The steady creep of the (mandolin? zither? washtub bass? a young Joanna N. on the harp?) beat to one-hit hardcore classic “Tried By 12,” beloved by a wide range of music geeks thanks to Autechre and others taking a lawnmower to it on the remix, deserves better than this video, which looks like something I’d watch on the Camden cable access “Dirty South Jersey” video show. (If anyone can find a clip of the local-to-Philly Kelis parody “Cheesesteak,” in which a woman [brace yourselves] gives birth to a cheesesteak on the counter of a pizza joint, I will FedEx you a box of Tastykakes.) But give yourself over to the no-fi production and heed the words of YouTube’s VikatMiGada: “veeeery dummw music video. thes song’s crazy shit.” Crazy shit, indeed.

I can’t even begin to describe how much I love this song. The video, on the other hand, illustrates the danger of letting amateurs get ahold of a camera.
