Perhaps cementing its status as the Snakes On A Plane of parody biopics, the “hey let’s make a movie comprised of references to old bands and then aggressively market it to music bloggers because surely they will BRING THE NEWS TO THE PEOPLE” flick Walk Hard bombed at the box office over the weekend, taking in $4.1 million in receipts and landing at No. 8 on the weekend’s top-grossing-movies chart. I really, really hope this means that I don’t have to see another reference to a “funny” clip, or a John C. Reilly “in character” concert, in my RSS reader for the rest of the year. [E!]

Hey! Snakes On A Plane was freakin’ awefulsome!!! And I didn’t see Walk Hard because I knew it was going to suck.
Walk Hard wasn’t that bad, but it’s definitely a movie you would not want to fork over more then five bucks on. The spoofs of Brian Wilson’s haywire years and Cox’s encounter with the Beatles were crackups.
@DHMBIB: you apparently did not see Snakes On A Plane twice. the second viewing really took the “some” out of “awfsome.”
I think some people may have been confused by the multi-million dollar full on Weinstein Co-esque Oscar marketing push for a parody movie. Not only that, but a parody of a real person’s actually sorta unhappy life.
At least, it confused me. I don’t usually give the general movie-going public so much credit (not after Wild Hogs earned sixty trillion at the box office) but I can’t think of any other reason.
you are such haters. you probably rolled your eyes at the thought of a parody bipoic that so obviously looked like a walk the line knock-up and didn’t even bother to see it before you passed judgement. yeah it’s way over the type, but unlike scary movie 1-17, this movie is hilarious. elvis karate chops is all i have to say.
@maura: i don’t know what’s harder to believe:
1) that despite its lame premise, Walk Hard manages to be quite funny (at least it was to me)
or
2) that someone of your taste and intelligence actually sat through SOAP twice.
@sfbeary: No. 2 is probably less hard to believe once you find out that I was compensated for one of those screenings.
I actually saw John C. Reilly in character playing at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville. Considering I’d mainly known him from sad-sack movie roles, I was surprised by what a good show he put on.
