Not so! Look at Billboard's Modern Rock chart you mentioned in your column last week, it's #6. And that song was totally ubiquitous on certain radio formats, although it definitely broke in '06 more than '07. @maura: Agreed, I hate "Summer Love."

@maura: Weakest of the singles? Without a doubt. (Even "Until the End of Time" has a little more bite.) Weakest on the whole album? No, I can't go there -- "Damn Girl" and "Losing My Way" are easily lamer.

Also, am I the only person who thinks that "Summer Love" is the weakest track off the Timberlake album? Yeesh. And hearing it yesterday just seemed to be a taunt.

Yeah, Z100 was all over Tim's jock this year. If actual airplay is any indication, that top two is pretty accurate -- they played the hell out of "The Way I Are" (which I'm basically okay with) and they were playing "Give It to Me" months after I forgot it existed. I think, with its inclusion of Timberlake and Furtado, that record hit a demographic sweet spot for them.

As does a certain type of whiny boy-band emo. I mean, look at that Red Jumpsuit Apparatus track at No. 17 -- I guarantee you that's the highest that song will place on any year-end chart anywhere. Certain cheesy rock records, Z100 just jumps early and hangs onto forever; they were playing the current Good Charlotte hit about a month before it even hit the Hot 100.

Thanks for posting this; brings back memories of late Decembers of yore when I'd listen to the Z100 countdown and the Casey Kasem countdown back-to-back the whole week of New Year's.
