This Reuters article wonders what can/should be done to change the sucky nature of digital download extras (like album art) as a way of luring hesitant CD buyers and/or illegal downloaders to said (legal) digital formats. But while the CD partisans might be waiting for the MP3-era double-gatefold and anal OiNK fans and other bitrate obsessives surely appreciated the carefully scanned and uploaded booklets purportedly included with album downloads, it’s hard to believe a behind-the-scenes video interview or access to Soulja Boy’s liner note shout-outs is really going to curtail bazillions of kids from snagging “Crank That” off their P2P of choice, any more than they would get them to legally download his album. (They might need the lyrics, though.) On the other hand, just think about how, uh, interesting “interactive” Love Grenade art would have been. [Reuters]
