Along with the news that Ryan Gosling has been hand-selected by Courtney Love as the man who will play Kurt Cobain–and get raked over the coals by pretty much every self-styled pundit who owns a copy of Nevermind forthwith–comes the tidbit that she has chosen Scarlett Johansson to play, um, Courtney Love. You can debate the visual accuracy of this bit of casting via the compare-and-contrast pics above (the one of Courtney’s actually from 1995, but it’s still a pretty good representation of her pre-plastic-surgery self, I think), but as someone who knows Hole’s catalog–and Courtney’s persona during the Live Through This years–pretty well, I would think that La Love would want someone who could, y’know, emote to play her, va-va-voom curves be damned.

David Hyde Pierce as Cobain. Come on!
@Camp Tiger Claw: Holy shit, that’s good.
A hearty +1 to you.
How about Cobain’s corpse? I mean seriously, why don’t we just dig it up already?
Then we can have the first movie to combine the biopic format with Weekend at Bernie’s.
Where is Chloe Webb when you need her?
I thought playing herself(opposite whatever 20 something hunk she currently has a crush on) was one of the conditions for making this flick.
@Sniffle: Actually, that’s not a half bad idea. He’d probably nail it.
Nick from “Freaks & Geeks” as Krist Novoselic. Do that and that alone and I’m there.
I hope this movie never gets completed.
This is just going to be “The Chipmunks movie shit on my childhood” all over again for Gen X.
Looks like you never outgrow teen angst…
Haha, between this and Jenna Jameson floating the rumor that Johansson would play her in an adaptation of her book, ScarJo is really becoming every aging skank’s wishful thinking pick for a biopic portrayal.
I’m excited for Lori Petty to make her triumphant return to cinema as Pat Smear.
@Sniffle: That would own.
Heath Ledger, in full Joker makeup and threads, looks just like Mrs. Cobain out on the town - cast him!
