@DHMBIB: You'd better read this before you go betting that the networks are about to "cave."

Believe me, I'm rooting for the WGA all the way. But at this point, it's almost a pride thing for the network pigheads (esp. Zucker the Fucker at NBC, who reportedly became more hard-line after the Globes showdown, not less). Picture a bunch of real-life Jack Donaghys, needing to show "toughness" to their überbosses/congloms/shareholders, and you're not too far off the mark.

The Grammys will go on; they've done a performance-heavy, patter-light version before. Agreed that the Oscars is the Last Straw everybody's looking toward, but I'm still not convinced the WGA won't be forced to give up a lot before that date.

I've been saying since the weekend that the networks are about to cave. After Sunday's debacle that destroyed NBC's Golden Globes, I am absolutely 100% certain that there will be a settlement in time for ABC's Oscars. The only thing I am unsure about is whether this will come before CBS' Grammys.

Meanwhile, Rupert Murdoch and Nigel Lythgoe are chuckling quietly to themselves.
