High School Musical 3 is bypassing the Disney Channel and going to theaters this October. The film’s plot is centered around “Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) facing the prospect of being separated from one another as they head off in different directions to college,” and subsequently writing and performing a musical about the whole thing. Me, I’m already looking forward to HSM4, in which our two young stars join rival schools’ a cappella groups, only to find that they’re going to have to compete head-to-head at a sing-off hootenanny emceed by Sharpay and her new new nose. Man don’t even get me started on a cappella groups. I spent my entire life in SoCal not knowing what an a cappella group was [unless you count Take 6, Boyz 2 Men, and those singing dudes on the sidelines in Where in the World is Carmen San Diego (?)], only to arrive at college in New England and find myself swept away in 4 years of harmonizing excitement as a member of an all male a cappella group. Don’t even get me started on all the unnecessary drama that accrued in that short period of time. [Or how eventually we needed an a cappella council to hold shit down for our 5 or 6 secretly rivaling groups on campus. Yes I said five or six. And my school was undergrad only with like 1500 kids...]
