I never got to see the Sacramento indiepop act Tiger Trap live, thanks to the confluence of my stunted age during the height of their popularity, the oppressive 21-and-over door policies of Chicago's finer rock clubs, and the fact that their collaboration sputtered to a halt after only one full-length, an EP, and a handful of one-off tracks for seven-inches and compilations. This clip of them performing the lovely, lilting "Words And Smiles" from their LP was uploaded to YouTube a month ago, and it's making me even more sad that I never chalked my license back in the day. So many regrets! [YouTube / MySpace]

Yes! "Puzzle Pieces" was always my favorite track from them.
Tiger Trap were responsible for some of the best shows I saw my first two years of college. They rocked pretty hard for such a poppy band - especially Heather Dunn on drums. Seeing them at Maxwell's in Hoboken with Lois Maffeo was indie pop heaven.
Caught them at an afternoon show in 1993 at UCI in the campus pub. Only a few people there -- everyone else's loss.
opening for free kitten at slim's in sf- they played the unreleased "in utero" by nirvana in between sets! oh to be young again!
oh, you so missed out.... luckily i was living in SF and in my 20's, so them with tsunami, crayon, velocity girl, free kitten, pineapple princess, bratmobile, etc. etc., about a dozen times total. Go Sailor was super fun live too, while they lasted (especially the times the softies ALso played, like at the Henry's Dress record release party for their first 10 inch). misty water-colored MEMries...
yes! puzzle pieces. the bratmobile side of that split is also my favorite stuff from them.
My wife lived in Berkeley circa 1992-93. She hung out with the East Bay punks a lot. Once she mentioned to some friends that she was going to see Tiger Trap. Virtually all of them acted disgusted. She went to the show anyway, and - surprise! - all of these disapproving friends were there, all looking rather sheepish about it.
Always wanted to see a drum-off between Heather Dunn and the drummer from Jale. They were both totally spazzy, smiley, awesome Animal-style drummers.
