mrmet_290x315.jpgFamed Met Ed Kranepool sits down with Ira Kaplan to discuss the genesis of Yo La Tengo’s name in what I am very fervently hoping is the first of many baseball-centric “Kaplan’s Korner” segments to be streamed from yolatengo.com, especially since I’m more than a touch worried that I’m not going to have much else to cheer about, Mets-wise, this coming season. (Sigh.) (Also: In keeping with our Internet digging for old TV, I just spent the last half hour looking for Kiner’s Korner clips on YouTube and Google Video, only to come up empty-handed. Boooooo!) Maura, I went looking for old Kiner’s Corners last season. Couldn’t find any. And I found out why after hearing Ralph talk during one of the games (they had him on as a guest for almost every Friday broadcast, for at least a couple of innings. And, boy, was he great.). Turns out they’d just tape the newest show right over old ones, so there’s few if any that even exist anymore. Which is a damn shame.

It’s not exactly Kiner’s Korner, but YouTube has about 300 back installments of Don Cherry’s “Coaches Corner” from National Hockey Night in Canada. He’s equal parts Don Imus and “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart, and shit is comedy gold.

This installment is notable for his Santa Claus necktie, and his accusation that hockey players of color are lazy.
