New Kids On The Block Very Serious About Loving You Forever

January 27th, 2008 // 4 Comments

People is reporting that Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, Jordan Knight, Jon Knight, and Danny Wood will announce a big old New Kids On The Block comeback within the next few weeks, despite all five members having aged far out of the “kid” demographic years ago. (The oldest member, Jon Knight, is now 40! And working as a real estate developer! Wonder if the market’s recent trials have contributed to his newfound willingness to return to performing.) The reunion coincides with the 20th anniversary of Hangin’ Tough, which went eight-times platinum and sold 20 million copies worldwide, and the group’s official Web site is now harvesting e-mail addresses and cell phone numbers from fans who are now presumably old enough to pay their own bills. (Perhaps they’re collecting the latter so as to announce one-off mall shows?) [People]

Pardon my ignorance, but I thought that “platinum” meant one million sold – why is something that sells 20 million only eight times platinum? Again, sorry for the dumb question, but I’ve always wondered what the hell “gold” and “platinum” mean.

@mhulot: Worldwide sales were 20 million; US sales were eight million. “Platinum” refers to US sales only.

if they come to jax, i’ll totally be there!

i’m kinda surprised that donnie is down for this though, considering that’s he’s actually a pretty damn good actor.

also, what sport are they playing in the video? they seem to have a basketball, but there is no hoop, just a concrete wall.

Please pinch me, so I know that I’m not dreaming! I have been their biggest fan since 1988, and, am still a devoted fan to this day. I’m soooo tired of all the negativity and bad press that NKOTB gets! This Reunion isn’t for you, so if you arn’t a fan, and have no interest in attending a concert, why ruin it for those of us that would love to see them again? I am a 35 year old professional woman. Some of the best times in my life have revolved around NKOTB. I am happy to say that I have passed on my love of their music to a second generation, my children! We enjoy listening together! I will be at any show they decide to have, and I think they may shock all the haters, when their concerts sell out!
