parisbeefheart.jpgWho’s still shameless enough to write another article entitled “The Top 10 Albums That Every Music Snob Name Checks” with a straight face? (”Do you like albums that sound like they were recorded in a basement? Then you’ll love the debut disc by lo-fi duo the Moldy Peaches because that’s actually where it was recorded.” !@#$#!) Who still has the money in a recession economy to greenlight and (presumably) pay someone to write these articles? WHEN WILL WEB 2.0 JUST IMPLODE ALREADY? [Gibson; HT: Reed Fischer]

Mizzou soars in TV ratings
Regular-season basketball rarely rivals football in the St. Louis television ratings. But the much-hyped Kansas-Missouri hoops game last Saturday, KU's final appearance at MU for the foreseeable future, pulled the upset. According to The Nielsen Co., 9.2 percent of homes in the market tuned in to ...

ATHENS (Reuters) - Greek workers went on strike against austerity measures on Friday, docking ships and halting public transport, hours after euro zone finance ministers said Athens needed to make more cuts to convince them to release a financial bailout. The euro and shares fell on Friday ...

The Boy in the Arab Strap actually is B&S’s best selling record…

I approve this rant, and the tag.

    amen

The Mars Volta? The Mars Volta aren’t really considered to be critical darlings. The only people who love that band are prog nerds, stoners, and…um…me.

I have theory that this was ghostwritten by Diablo Cody.

Wait… so this article claims that music snobs like these albums… yet seems to know a lot about them… so then he claims indirectly that he is a music snob without actually coming out and saying “I’m a snob.”, and henceforth “I am better than you for knowing.”

must…not…take…bait…must…resist…commenting…on…ill-advised theory that music snobs somehow hate “selling out to society” when half of them come from rich families and most go to college…must…keep…away…

(side note: writers seem to know an awful lot of “hipsters” lately. either that, or someone just unearthed a pile of rejected manuscripts from 1995.)

Of course any comment on this list is shooting fish in a barrel (musis snobs love cliche’s and being self referential!)- but Blonde on Blonde? Ugh. Its as obscure as Rubber Soul.

Now maybe the Basement Tapes (the actual basement tapes, not the mass produced blah blah blah), but not Blonde on Blonde.

    Sheesh.

I guarantee Jonah Bayer is an unpaid student intern. Oh wait, guess not. Jesus.

“He currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.” No shit?

But Gibson *has* to spend that money! Otherwise it’ll go to contest winners.

By god, what a thoroughly horrible article.

it should be noted that this was written for the Gibson newsletter. 10 out of 11 people who have asked me my thoughts on Stadia Arcadia (with a straight face) have been guitarists. Not that I’m saying people who play guitar can’t have great taste in music (ahem), but there’s a big George Thorogood/Ain’t that Tough Enough/Keep Your Hands to Yo’ Self subgroup that might actually get something from that article.

I don’t like any of those albums. Ok, Slanted and Enchanted isn’t bad. Glad to know I’m not a music snob.

If that dude thinks that B & S were name dropping a fellow Scottish band with the reference to arab strap in their album title, he needs to get out more.

as if the concept of the article isn’t bad enough, it’s not even executed well. Poor choices.
